Ros Escott AM

Welcome! This website will give you some background information about me and the various breastfeeding and other activities that I am, or have been, involved in.

Please note that I have now retired from all professional activity.

I started my breastfeeding career as a breastfeeding mother, supported by the Australian Breastfeeding Association (then the Nursing Mothers' Association of Australia). I had read a stack of their old newsletters while I was pregnant and had managed to pre-arm myself with enough information to defy most of the hospital practices and conflicting advice which might otherwise have doomed me to failure. I had previously sat by the fire with a friend while she breastfed her babies and I now know that such an experience correlates with better breastfeeding outcomes. Sadly, many new mothers in our culture have never closely observed another woman breastfeed.

I am passionate about what I do. I often say that if you had the knowledge that I have accumulated about breastfeeding and lactation over the years, you too would be as passionate. You would know that breastfeeding is much more than a lifestyle choice of "I'll breastfeed if I can". Breastfeeding has profound, lifelong health and psychological importance for both baby and mother.
